Sketches of my Magazine Layout

Today, I decided I would sketch out the types of magazine I have come across, and how I could layout my final composition of my magazine. I used my Bamboo Wacom tablet and Adobe Photoshop CS5 to sketch, as sketching in my notepad and scanning into my computer did my drawings no justice.

I looked at Vogue Korea and Elle in a previous blog post, and noticed that they had more text than just the title of the magazine. Therefore, I decided to have a look and see what text would look like next to an image. Depending on what my image looked like and how it was composed, depends on if i include text with my image on the front cover. I would prefer to just have the title and the image independently, but if my final image had a lot of free space, I would be tempted to include some more text.

This is how I would prefer my final magazine front cover to be composed. I would prefer minimal text, and just the magazine title and needed bar code and pricing etc next to it.

When concentrating on my double page spread, I am unsure of whether to include one long image, or two smaller images. I have just included one image on both of these practice double spread editorials, and it looks bare without another image alongside it. Therefore, I feel like I should present my double spread editorial as two images rather than one.
