I received my ASOS Spring edition in the post today, so decided to take a peak into how they format their magazine!
I looked at the concept of black and white photography through researching the iconic photographer Jane Bown, so when I saw this photograph of the band Alt-J, I was impressed by how black and white made the image look striking. It gives the image a lot more depth than I imagine it would if the photograph was colour.
This double page spread caught my eye through the use of two photographs together to compile a two page article. The photographs at the top fit together so seamlessly, that I didn't at first notice that there were two separate images.
Again, two photographs were used here to create one double page spread. I like the idea of using two photographs from the same scene, that flow together as a story. The first photograph shows the two girls picking up their bandmate, and the second show them tipping her on her side. They flow as a set, almost telling a story.
I have been really inspired by the image on the right of this double page spread, for the use of alternative lighting. The model is stood in the middle of the road at dusk, and the street lights from the cars behind are blurred, producing alternative colouring in the background landscape.
Below is an alternative way to show my photographs, through composing two photographs on the same page, almost like a photo album. I don't think I will be pursuing this concept, as it doesn't relate to my theme.
