Male Magazine Research

After changing from a female to a male model, I have had to do some further research into magazine covers, and articles, to see if there are any differences in layout and compositions.

I love the black and white style of photography that is used on magazine covers and articles. I have never really experimented with black and white studio photography, so this may be something to delve into as an experiment. I love the shadow on the models face, which makes him look mysterious. I will test this in the studio by using side lighting and a lit background.

This magazine looks very contemporary and modern, and I like the minimalist text they have placed on the front. I always expect fashion magazines to have a lot of text on the front, but I think that draws away from the photographers art. I will be keeping my text to a minimum on my front cover.

This is a typical magazine cover that you see Vogue, Elle and Mens Health Magazine produce. It has lots of text on the cover with a studio shot of a male figure in the centre. The text is coloured the match the theme and the font is the same throughout. I want to steer away from this typical cover, and experiment with layout and colour.
